Normal Weight, Overweight & Obese

By Hans Diehl, M.D. www.chiphealth.com

Knowing your ideal weight is important. Studies show that people who remain near their ideal weight live longer, healthier lives. Find out how close or far you are from your ideal weight.

The bathroom scale tells the story of our eating and exercise habits. It can also, for better or worse, predict our health. Read and understand the table below. Then evaluate whether you are normal, overweight, or obese.

Ideal Weight Table

Men
  • Measure your height in inches. Subtract 60 from this figure.
  • Take the value above times 6.
  • Add 100 to this value. This is your ideal weight in pounds.
Women
  • Measure your height in inches. Subtract 60 from this figure.
  • Take the value above times 5.
  • Add 106 to this value. This is your ideal weight in pounds.
Are you large or small boned?
For large boned, take your ideal weight times 1.05.
For small boned, take your ideal weight times .95.
Don't know if large or small boned? Then see ideal weight page.

Are You Normal, Overweight, Or Obese?

Normal: Multiply your ideal weight times 1.09. If you now weigh less than this number, you are normal. You're safe! Regular exercise and a healthy diet will boost your energy and endurance while keeping your weight stable.

Overweight: Multiple your ideal weight times 1.20. If your present weight is below this number but above normal weight, you are classified as overweight. Your weight may be affecting your health and self-image. Take action now. Make eating an optimal diet and daily exercise a priority.

Obese: If your present weight is more than 1.20 times your ideal weight, you are classified as obese. You are in danger and need immediate action. Do not let anything stand between you and daily exercise. Learn to cook healthy meals and put the principles from this web site into practice. Change your lifestyle now! You can feel years younger and enjoy a healthier, longer life.
