CoronaVirus (COVID-19)

* Updated  3/18/2021

Medi-Share members who wish to get the COVID-19 vaccine should indicate they are “uninsured” when registering or at appointments. In order to avoid being "balanced billed" for the vaccine, members should:

  • Make sure to identify as uninsured (as Medi-Share is not insurance), and
  • Go through their local health department, or
  • Go through a provider who participates in the Provider Relief Fund (CARES Act)

The federal government has stated that uninsured Americans should have access to zero-cost COVID-19 vaccines due to the existence of the Provider Relief Fund. So, as a Medi-Share member, if your provider is asking for payment for the vaccine, ask them about this program—or consider seeking out another vaccine provider who can utilize the Provider Relief Fund to ensure you can be vaccinated without undue financial hardship.

Making decisions about the vaccine can be challenging. Throughout the pandemic, our Medical Director, Dr. Greene has stayed abreast of the latest medical information, as well as the CDC guidelines, whenever relaying information or making recommendations for our employees or members. We're Here for You

As a ministry, we continue to pray fervently for you, our Medi-Share family. We also continue to provide you with regular email updates as well as blog updates from our Medical Director, along with practical information about your membership, so make sure you are checking your email, our blog, and our website regularly.

Here are some of the measures we are taking to be here if you need to access the Medi-Share program and support from other members due to COVID-19 or other health-related issues:

1. Member Access & Support – You will continue to have access to our telehealth provider, which is fully shared. If you think you have symptoms of COVID-19 such as fever plus cough and/or shortness of breath, we encourage you to use telehealth through our provider-MDLive. This gives you 24/7 access to a board-certified physician who can help you determine if further care or testing is recommended before exposing yourself and/or others to the virus.
Register now, instead of waiting until you need it.

If advanced care for COVID-19 is recommended:

    • Bill sharing eligibility for medical evaluation and treatment related to a COVID 19 diagnosis follows our member-voted and approved guidelines.

    • Charges for COVID testing are eligible for sharing at the Medicare allowable rates.

    • Vaccines and vaccine administration fees are not eligible for sharing but can be obtained free of charge through your local health department or FEMA run vaccination center.

    • Cares Act/COVID 19 Provider Relief fund eligibility will be evaluated when applicable.

    • Final eligibility determination is always made after the medical bills are submitted for processing.

2. Protecting Employees & Our Ability to Serve You – We remain open from 8am – 9pm EST Monday – Friday. With the majority of our 700 employees still working remotely, we continue to handle calls daily to assist members and providers. Our team is here to guide and support you in prayer.

We are proud to serve you, the members of Medi-Share, and will continue to provide updates regarding COVID-19 as the situation evolves. Our prayers are with you and your loved ones as we embrace the opportunity to be salt and light in our communities.

“He who dwells in the secret place of the Most High shall abide under the shadow of the Almighty. I will say of the Lord, He is my refuge and my fortress; My God, in Him I will trust.” Psalm 91:1-2

+ Is testing and treatment for Coronavirus (COVID-19) eligible for sharing?

Yes. Testing and treatment for Coronavirus (COVID-19) are eligible for sharing, like costs for any testing or treatment of a confirmed illness, based on the Medi-Share Guidelines. Members should utilize free telehealth as their first route of care and, if further treatment is recommended, utilize PHCS providers when appropriate.

+ What should members do if they are sick?

If members are feeling sick with fever >100.4° and cough or shortness of breath, they should utilize their free MDLive telehealth service first to help determine the necessary next steps.

As part of your Medi-Share membership, you have free access to 24/7 Telehealth. You can speak to a Board certified physician from the comfort of your home to review symptoms and get advice regarding any further steps.

+ How do I use MDLive?

You will continue to have access to MDLive, our contracted telehealth provider, at no cost. MDLive gives you 24/7 access to a board-certified physician who can help you determine if further care or testing is recommended before exposing yourself and/or others to the virus. If you have not yet registered or set up your account for MDLive, please visit MyChristianCare.org/mdlive and register now before you need care. If you are already set up with an account on MDLive, simply login to schedule your virtual call.
